Discovering Rome in 48 hours

Hi traveler friends! Today we want to share with you our experience of a trip to discover Rome in 48 hours.

This city is so full of culture, delicious food, and historic monuments that even just 48 hours are not enough to discover everything it has to offer.

From the treasures of the Vatican to Roman cuisine: a complete itinerary to experience the best of the Eternal City.

We have done our best to create an itinerary that will allow you to get a good idea of what this city has to offer in a short period of time.

Rome in 48 hours

Day 1: Colosseum Tour

This impressive amphitheater was built in 80 AD and, as a result, has earned its place in history. Thanks to its beauty and grandeur, it was used for public spectacles for nearly 500 years.

We recommend booking tickets online in advance to avoid long queues. Similarly, you may choose a guided tour for a more in-depth visit.

After visiting the Colosseum, take a walk to the Circus Maximus, the ancient stadium of Rome, where chariot races were held.

Today, it is a public park where you can take a relaxing stroll and enjoy a panoramic view of the city. Additionally, if you’re looking for a more authentic experience, you might opt for a bike tour to explore the city.

For lunch, we recommend trying authentic Roman cuisine

To start your day in Rome, head to Da Tonino restaurant near Circus Maximus. Don’t miss their Roman specialty, pasta alla gricia, or try the famous Roman street food, pizza al taglio.

After lunch, visit the Pantheon – a well-preserved monument from 27 BC, now a Christian church with Raphael’s tomb. It’s a must-see for history and beauty.

For a “Michelin”dinner

Go to Il Pagliaccio restaurant, a Michelin-starred restaurant where Chef Anthony Genovese will let you taste his interpretation of modern Italian cuisine. It’s not cheap, but it’s definitely worth it. In particular, their tasting menu is one of the most memorable culinary experiences in Rome.

Day 2: Visit to the Vatican

The independent city-state within Rome, home to the Pope and the Catholic Church. Visit the Basilica of St. Peter, the largest church in the world, where you can admire works of art such as Michelangelo’s Pietà. Book in advance to avoid the queues.

Once you’ve finished your visit to the Vatican, make your way over to the charming Trastevere neighborhood. This area is famous for its quaint alleyways, lively piazzas, and authentic trattorias. Take a leisurely walk around and indulge in the delicious cuisine served up in the local eateries and pubs.

For a quick lunch, we recommend trying the sandwiches from Mordi e Vai, a famous street food kiosk that serves some of the best sandwiches in Rome. Their tripe and pajata sandwiches are particularly famous among the locals.

In the afternoon, take a walk in the historic center of Rome, where you will find numerous charming squares, such as Piazza Navona and Piazza di Spagna, and famous shopping streets, such as Via del Corso.

For dinner and the continuation of the evening

A must-try is the “pizza alla pala” at Bonci Pizzarium, a very popular spot among Romans for its crispy pizza and high-quality ingredients.

If you prefer something more elegant, you can opt for La Pergola restaurant, located on the roof of the Rome Cavalieri Hotel, which offers a spectacular view of the city.

As for bars, you can try the Jerry Thomas Speakeasy cocktail bar, located in a basement in the Monti district and offering an intimate atmosphere and a menu of creative cocktails.

For something more casual, you can opt for the rooftop bar at Gianicolo, which offers a panoramic view of the city.

This concludes our 48-hour tour of Rome! I hope this itinerary has inspired you and made you want to visit this beautiful city.
